From the swept, gelled black hair to the natural pose on camera, Cristiano Ronaldo junior is the spitting image of his famous father.

Ronaldo senior posted the family picture to his Instagram page on Thursday evening, smiling next to his six-year-old boy.

He cheekily captioned the snap ‘perfect couple’ with a couple of love heart emojis, and soon raked in over 2.5million likes, including from famous sporting names such as John Terry and Anthony Joshua.

It is a rare shot of Ronaldo senior smiling in recent weeks, as his Real Madrid side have stuttered in recent games following their record breaking 40-game unbeaten run.

Ronaldo, despite sweeping the individual player awards for 2016 and remaining one of football’s most fearsome forwards at the age of 31, has struggled to carry the attacking can alone, particularly in the absence of Gareth Bale, sidelined until March due to ankle surgery.

He was disappointing across the two-legs of Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey quarter final against Celta Vigo, which they lost 4-3 on aggregate.

The man who likes to be known as CR7 scored an excellent free-kick, the 50th of his career, but otherwise was kept quiet by mid-table opposition as he toiled in the centre forward role.

Ronaldo thrives in arriving late to finish off a move in the nominal No9 position – being used as a target man makes him less effective.

Manager Zinedine Zidane thinks the Portuguese star works best on the left of a front three, and will be keen to restore him there as soon as possible.

When he does, then maybe Cristiano senior, and junior, will have more to smile about.
